Erdogan Hits PKK Targets After Ankara Blast: How’s Sweden’s NATO Bid Fanning Turkey-Kurdish Tension?

Turkey said it has carried out a number of air strikes on Kurdish targets in northern Iraq. Areas with civilian settlements were also hit in the attack, as per ANF news agency. The air raid came hours after a suicide blast hit a government building in Turkey’s capital Ankara. On Oct 1, a suicide bomber detonated an explosive device near an entrance of the interior ministry building in Ankara, injuring two police officers. A second attacker was killed by police. A statement from the ANF news agency said the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) planned the bombing to coincide with the opening of the parliament which is expected to consider ratifying Sweden’s bid to join NATO. What is the connection between Sweden’s entry into NATO and mounting tensions between Turkey under President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and PKK?
