Chaitra month has started from the 8th of March which will continue till 6th April. Sankashti Chaturthi of Krishna Paksha falls on 11 March of this Hindi month. There is a tradition of doing special worship of Lord Ganesha on this day. According to Skanda and Brahmavaivarta Purana, keeping a fast on this date while indulging in a special worship of Ganesha removes your troubles and fulfills your wishes.
Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi fast is falling on Saturday. On this day Chaturthi Tithi will remain for the whole day and end around 10 pm. Sankashti Ganesh Chaturthi fast is observed only on the moonrise of Vyapini Chaturthi . That is, if the moon rises in the evening on Chaturthi Tithi, then fasting should be observed on that day. In this fast, the date which is at the time of sunrise is not considered.
On the day of Sankashti Chaturthi, Lord Ganesha is worshiped along with rituals. This fast is as per the name. That is, it is considered to be the abductor of all troubles. It is believed that fasting and worshiping Lord Ganesha on this day gives relief from all kinds of sufferings.
Sankashti Chaturthi fast is observed by married women wishing for the long life and good fortune for their husbands. Unmarried girls also worship Lord Ganesha in the evening by observing a day-long fast to get a good husband.
Method of fasting: Can only consume fruits and milk
People wake up before sunrise and take a bath and after offering water to the Sun Gos, see Lord Ganesha. Sitting in front of the idol of Ganesha, one should take a pledge to fast and worship throughout the day. In this fast only fruits and milk should be taken throughout the entire day. No other food should be eaten during this time. By fasting in this way, it is believed that ones wishes are fulfilled. Lord Ganesha should be worshiped both in the morning and evening. Complete the fast after offering Arghya to the moon in the evening.
First worship Ganesha then offer prayers to the moon
For worship, set up a post in the east-north direction and install the idol of Lord Ganesha. First spread a red or yellow colored cloth on the post. Offer water, Akshat, Durva grass, laddoos, paan, incense etc. on the idol of Ganesha.
Take akshat and flowers and state your wish to Ganapati and then perform aarti after saluting Ganesha by chanting the mantra Om Gan Ganapataye Namah . After this offer honey, sandalwood, roli mixed milk to the moon. After worshipping, receive prasad in the form of laddu.
