Mumbai: Opposition leaders on Friday in Maharashtra staged a protest outside the Vidhan Bhawan in Mumbai against the state budget presented by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP )-Shiv Sena government. The opposition leaders protested by holding pumpkins in their hands. They alleged that the state govt has not provided any relief to the public in the state budget.

Shiv Sean (Uddhav Thackeray faction) leader Aaditya Thackeray criticised the budget. He said that only fake promises were made in the state budget. "Those who are giving assurances today are traitors, so how can they be trusted?" reported news agency ANI quoting Aaditya as saying.

On Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is also state's Finance Minister, presented the budget in the state assembly. The Maharashtra Budget 2023-24 is based on the principle of ‘Panchamrut’, with a focus on farmers, women, youth, employment, and the environment.

In the budget, the state government announced giving 50 percent concession to women in all state transport buses. The women will also get one percent concession in stamp duty. The Maharashtra government will expand "Apla Dawakhana" scheme.
“The initiative we started got a huge response, seeing that now 700 Apla Dawakhana dispensaries will be started in the entire state in the name of late Balasaheb Thackeray, through which free treatment will be provided,” said Devendra Fadnavis while presenting the budget. The state government also announced Rs five lakh insurance scheme for the traditional fishermen with the Centre’s assistance.

Fadnavis also announced that four lakh new homes will be constructed. Out of these, 1.5 lakh would be for the backward category and 25,000 for Matang Samaj, under the under PM Awas scheme.
