Pune: 33 injured amid Shiv Jayanti celebrations as speeding truck rams into tempo in Ravet

As many as 33 people who were carrying Shivjayani jyot from Saswad to Shilatane were injured in an accident after a speeding truck hit their tempo on Friday.

Pune: As many as 33 people who were carrying the ‘ Shivjayanti Jyot’- a flame to mark the birth anniversary of Maratha king Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj- were injured after a speeding truck rammed into their tempo in Pune’s Ravet area on Friday, the police said.
A team of officials from the Hinjewadi police station has initiated an investigation into the accident. Senior Police Inspector Vivek Muglikar said the group was carrying the ‘Shivjayanti Jyot’ from Malhargad fort in Saswad to Shilatane .
As per the police, all the injured were taken to a hospital for treatment. A first information report (FIR) against the truck driver is being lodged in the matter.
Moreover, amid the celebrations of Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti in Pune today, several processions are to be taken out on the street.

In view of these movements, the Pune Tarffic Police have issued an advisory diverting traffic from procession routes in the city.
